Discover the best places in the Ardennes while camping

Published on: 23-04-2021

It seems that the next holiday will also be in your own bubble. We went on a quest to find the most beautiful places in Belgium for a safe holiday without the coronavirus, close to home and in your own bubble. Our search took us to the Ardennes, where the ideal holiday is a camping holiday, as Floreal Holidays, the operator of various campsites, explains.

The Ardennes, breathtakingly beautiful and diverse

The Ardennes is an undisputed jewel of Belgium. A vast and totally untamed nature, where you can relax surrounded by greenery and babbling rivers, lakes teeming with fish and idyllic villages along the winding valleys. But it is the vast forests that take your breath away. These forests change colour with the seasons, thanks to the different varieties of deciduous and coniferous trees.

A RANGE OF POSSIBILITIES FOR A MEMORABLE HOLIDAY

The Ardennes offers a wide range of outdoor activities. You can of course go hiking, but also cycling, mountain biking, fishing, watching animals, doing exhilarating outdoor activities in an adventure park or exploring castles. The Ardennes are synonymous with activity and tranquillity, and guarantee a quick break from the daily routine.

CAMPING FOR A CORONAVIRUS-FREE HOLIDAY IN YOUR OWN BUBBLE

In these times of Corona, a camping holiday is absolutely ideal. The Ardennes is so diverse in terms of landscapes, activities and tourist sites, that we would like to introduce you to four typical spots, all of which are different and which give a beautiful image of our beautiful Ardennes.

1. Rendeux near the Natural Park of the Two Ourthe

Rendeux is a small village beautifully situated in the middle of the woods on the banks of the Ourthe, close to the nature reserve of the Two Ourthe Nature Park. In the area, you can rent kayaks and bicycles, and go on many walks and cycle rides. You can also make all sorts of excursions such as visiting an old mill, exciting caves, castle ruins, a wildlife park, an adventure park, various museums and much more.

For your accommodation we recommend Camping Le Festival ****, situated on the banks of the Ourthe. This campsite has its own supermarket, playground, sports field, petanque courts, table tennis, cosy bar with a large terrace, fries shop and restaurant.

2. Odrimont near Lierneux in the High Ardennes

Lierneux is situated in the high Ardennes, not far from the ski slopes of Le Monty and La Baraque Fraiture equipped with snow cannons, where you can practice cross-country skiing as well as downhill skiing. In the summer you can go on beautiful walks and bike rides, visit the Spa-Francorchamps F1 track, the springs and thermal baths of Spa, the waterfalls of Coo, etc.

Camping Gossseimont **** is a beautiful campsite in Odrimont in the municipality of Lierneux. It has a lovely playground, a cosy tavern with a covered terrace, a small mini-market, a sports field, a table tennis table and petanque courts.

3. La Roche-en-Ardenne in the heart of the Ardennes

La Roche-en-Ardenne is an old feudal town situated in a beautiful wooded area on the banks of the Ourthe, under the eye of an 11th century castle. The region has a rich history, but also offers many outdoor activities, caves, a wildlife park, castles ...

You can spend the night on the banks of the Ourthe at camping La Roche 1 **** which has a cosy restaurant, a tavern with a large terrace, a fries shop, a small shop, sports fields, a playground, mini football, a petanque field, a heated outdoor swimming pool within walking distance and of course the Ourthe.

4. Virton in Gaume

The Gaume region offers a completely different landscape and above all a completely different climate. It is also called the Belgian Provence, and for good reason. In this region you can not only walk or cycle around the Maginot Line, discover medieval castles, but you can also go fishing in one of the many lakes, pedal boats ...

The beautiful campsite situated on such a lake is called La Colline****. In addition to the lake, there is an outdoor swimming pool, a playground, a campsite shop, a brasserie with a large terrace, a fries shop, a volleyball field, a petanque field, a table tennis table, a football field, a picnic area ...

THE BENEFITS OF CAMPING AT A GLANCE

Why camping? Camping is much cheaper than a hotel holiday, and camping is totally Corona-proof. You can do everything in your own bubble. Moreover, camping is a way to get closer to nature. You mainly live outside, which is a completely different experience from a hotel holiday. You simply enjoy a different atmosphere.

CAMPING IN DIFFERENT FORMS

You no longer need your own camping equipment. You can rent your own camping accommodation ready to use and in different levels of comfort. You can opt for the very basic, a tent or caravan with the 'back to nature' feeling, but you can also camp with more luxury and originality, which we call glamping (contraction of glamour and camping). How about a week in a safari tent, possibly with a wood-burning stove for a cold evening, or in a brand new look Coco Sweet tent, an original design built from materials such as tent canvas and coconut wood? And of course you can always camp with your own tent, caravan or motorhome.
