The Walking Stick March
For its thirtieth edition, the walking stick march returns once again to Tournai. This iconic march of Tournai folklore involves climbing Mont-Saint-Aubert from the village of Kain on Easter Monday, April 6. This high point attracts thousands of participants each year, including many families. With routes of 6, 12, and 18 kilometers, this ascent is accessible to everyone.
The Origin
The origin of this march dates back to the Middle Ages, when pilgrims climbed the mountain. The tradition of climbing with a stick is said to go back to the 14th century, when young people would cut sticks as a game at the top of Mont-Saint-Aubert.
It is also said that in the 18th century, two rival groups used to face off on Easter Monday. Today, these clashes have disappeared, but the stick has since become part of Tournai folklore.

Why participate?
To participate, all you need is a good pair of shoes and appropriate clothing. The route is wooded, so it can easily become muddy.
